As the UK breaks the £1bn mark in online sales for the first time, is Black Friday evolving into an online event?
It all started two years ago when Asda brought the annual shopping bonanza, Black Friday, across the pond. Thousands of people queued up to bag themselves the deal of the year right before Christmas, causing mayhem throughout the country which led to fights and arrests.
Fast forward to 2015 and it’s a much different story. Stores threw open their doors for a chaotic Black Friday, but were left disappointed as everyone headed online.
Is Online Ready?
This year it’s all been about shopping online, which raises the question about the high street’s involvement in future Black Friday events.
A mixture of poor weather and painful memories from previous years caused Britons to stay in the comfort of their own homes and spend 1.1 billion pounds – an increase of 36% from last year.
