Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has reportedly experienced an international outage this morning.

Users around the world have reported having issues when trying to send messages on the app.

When opening the app, many users could not connect to the platform.

The issues have now been rectified.

The reports began coming in at around 7.45am according to Down Detector, which tracks technology outages for the public.

WhatsApp users complained on Twitter about the disruption to services, with the hashtag #WhatsAppDown trending on the platform.

Internet governance watchdog NetBlocks said that the incident was not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering, suggesting that this was an international problem.

A Meta spokesperson told National Technology News: “”We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We’ve fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience.”

Meta did not say what had caused the outage.
